Welcome to a new and exciting school year! I hope you had a wonderful and rejuvenating summer break. As we embark on another academic year, the Nesbitt School staff is dedicated and committed to building a safe and strong community of successful, lifelong learners. As parents, you also play a key role in the success of your children therefore, parent/school communication and collaboration are crucial.
It is with great sadness but warm wishes that I announce the retirement of Mrs. Natalie Youakim, Mrs. Roslyn Rubin and Mrs. Joyce Langlois. They have all been an integral part of our school community for many years and their contributions will always be valued and remembered. On behalf of the entire Nesbitt Family, I would like to thank them for their years of commitment and dedication and wish them all the best in their new endeavours.
This year, a few new staff members have joined our family: Ms. Stephanie Settino, grade 2 English (Core), Mrs. Kim Tomei grade 4 English (Core), Mrs. Pierina LoDico grade 4 English (Immersion), Mrs. Vicky Pronovost grade 6 English (Core) and Ms. Rozina Rogan, Social Studies. I appreciate you joining me in welcoming them to our team.
ENTRY and DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
The first school bell rings at 7:42 a.m. At this point teachers start their morning supervision in the school yard. All students are expected to go to their designated school yard at this time. Students will only be permitted to enter the building at the sound of the 7:52 a.m. bell. For the safety and security of all children, parents are kindly requested to refrain from entering the school yard. In the event of rain, children will enter the building at 7:42 a.m. at which point teachers will be supervising indoors.
If your child arrives after 7:52 a.m., kindly use the main entrance door and report with your child to the office. In addition, all visitors are requested to use the main entrance only. If you are coming to pick up your child/children for an appointment, or to drop off forgotten items, please use the main door and use the intercom in order to identify yourself and report to the office. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Parent Pick-up 2:17 p.m. : Parents picking up their children after dismissal, can do so by parking on Bellechasse (15 min drop off zone) and meet their children by the gate (facing Bellechasse) near the field. A teacher will be present on supervision at that time.
“Welcome Back to School” Celebration
On September 5th, the Home and School Association has planned a fun-filled welcome back to school day for our students: music on the drums, hot dogs, snow cones and inflatables. On behalf of everyone here at Nesbitt, I would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to our Home & School Association for organizing this day and to all the parent volunteers for offering their gift of time.
CHANGE OF SCHEDULE
Please advise your child’s teacher with a note in the school agenda, if you anticipate a change in his or her schedule or daily routine. This avoids for example, having children take the school bus instead of staying in daycare when you are not at home. If you have to pick up your child before the end of the day, please come to the office to sign him/her out. In addition, please try not to call the school to make last minute arrangements for your child or last minute changes to his/her regular routine, unless it is a true emergency. The office must be advised before 2:00 p.m. if any such changes must occur.
School Bus: Under no circumstance is a child allowed to get dropped off at a friend’s bus stop, nor is a child allowed to get onto another bus, to go to a friend’s house. This is strictly forbidden for safety and security reasons. Unfortunately, a note from a parent requesting this, will not be granted, as this is School Board policy. The only stop a child may be picked up and dropped off at is the one indicated on his/her bus pass.
We kindly request that all school fees for consumables are paid by September 12th, 2014.
Lunch supervision fees pay the salaries of the lunch monitors who supervise your children during lunch. They are as follows for the 2014-2015 school year: $216.00 per child. (Families with 4 children – fourth child is free). Please make an effort to make your payments on time. You may choose to pay for the year in one single payment of $216.00 per child no later than Friday, September 26, 2014 or you can pay in two installments with the first payment by September 26, 2014 and the second by November 14, 2014. Should you require to make special arrangements with respect to payments, please contact the school principal.
Kindly complete and return all the mandatory forms to your child’s teacher by Friday September 8th, 2014.
