September Newsletter

August 31, 2018

Dear parent(s)/guardian(s),

I would like to welcome back all our students, families, teachers and staff.  Once again this year the Nesbitt school community extended a warm welcome to all our returning staff and new staff.  I am so proud to be part of this vibrant school and am excited to support the students once again in this learning and growing journey.

The students are off to a great start. They have met their teachers and are eager to make new friends and engage in new learning opportunities.

I would also like to thank the teachers and staff of Nesbitt School for carefully planning and preparing for the arrival of our students. I would also like to extend my appreciation to our caretakers and our secretaries for assisting the Nesbitt School staff and administration in getting the school ready for the start of the new school year. Everyone’s contribution has been invaluable.

Curriculum Night SEPTEMBER 6

On September 6, 2018 we will be welcoming parents to our annual curriculum night. Please make your way to the big gym for 6:30 pm for a short welcome from myself and other school committee chairpersons.

Please be advised that students are encouraged to stay home on this evening.  Our classrooms do not have the capacity to accommodate parents and students.  As well, students are often left unattended and impede on the sessions within the classrooms.  I thank-you in advance for your cooperation with this matter.

Our physical education teachers will be available that evening should you wish to purchase your child’s physical education

t-shirt ($5.00).

Nesbitt Home and School Association

Our Home and School Association is off to a wonderful start this year.  Fun day is scheduled for September 7, 2018.  Please take note of the reminder which will be distributed next week.

Family and community Movie Night will be held on September 14, 2018.  Tickets will be made available for purchasing through Home and School.  A representative will be available on Curriculum night should parents wish to purchase tickets to the event.

General Assembly

Our annual general assembly will be taking place on September 11, 2018 at 6:30 pm. The purpose of this meeting is to vote in any new members to our governing board. Please mark your calendars. An official invitation will be distributed to students next week.

Dismissal routine

Please ensure that dismissal routines are clearly indicated in your child’s agenda.  Changes should be kept to minimum.  Any changes to the end of day dismissal must be reported prior to 12:00 pm.

Student Packages

Please read and complete the student information package which was sent home.  It is important for the main office to have all updated contact information as soon as possible.  Deadline date: Sept. 15

School Agenda

The agenda is the school’s primary source of communication. In the first pages of the agenda you will find the school’s rules and regulations and other pertinent information about the school. Please read the pages with your child(ren). Pages 5&6, highlight important information regarding behavior and expectations. We ask that you and your child sign page 6. This agreement confirms that he/she has read the rules and regulations, understands them and agrees to respect them.

Should your child be required to take medication, the school must receive the original prescription attached to the bottle. You will also be asked to complete an authorization form which permits our school personnel to administer the prescribed medication to your child as per the doctor’s directives.

All medication must be in a sealed Ziplock bag, clearly labelled with your child’s name and homeroom.

School personnel is not permitted to administer any medication such as Benadryl, eye drops, ear drops, cough syrup, etc…without a prescription.
